    <h2>Education Tuition Stipend</h2>
    <p>A Stipend is another form of support for you to utilize toward your college tuition.</p>
    <p>A Stipend is a fee paid to a student for performing a certain type of work or service in a specific field of study.  The Peace Corps is an example of an organization that utilizes the stipend mechanism for its members.</p>

	<p><strong>What is a Stipend?</strong></p>
    <p>The actual meaning of the term "Stipend" is that it is a form of monetary payment or salary.  It differs from a wage in that:</p>
    <ul>
    	<li>A Stipend is not necessarily payment for work performed.</li>
    	<li>A Stipend is generally less money than a wage for work performed.</li>
 	</ul>

    <p><strong>What is a Stipend for College?</strong></p>
    <p>A Stipend for College Tuition generally refers to the amount of money per credit hour paid by a particular state on behalf of an eligible undergraduate or graduate student.

    <p><strong>What schools are eligible for the Stipend Program? </strong></p>
    <p>Normally, all state colleges and universities are eligible to give stipends to students.  There are also a number of private colleges in each state that disperse stipend payments to students.

    <p><strong>How can I find out if a particular college or university is part of the State Stipend Program?</strong></p>
    <p>The best way to determine the eligibility of a particular school for the Stipend Program is to contact the school's Financial Aid Office.

    <p><strong>How are the amounts of the Stipend determined?</strong></p>
    <p>The monetary value of the Stipend is determined by the number of credits per semester that you take.  The Stipend values are the same for all students taking an identical number of credits.

    <p><strong>Do private colleges and university Stipends have the same monetary value as State schools?</strong></p>
    <p>Usually, they are valued at around half the amount dispersed by State schools. </p>
  
	<h3>Eligibility Requirements</h3>

    <p><strong>Public College or University</strong></p>
    <p>Students are classified as in-state students for stipend eligibility purposes.  In other words, if you live in another state but attend an out-of-state school, you are NOT ELIGIBLE for a STIPEND.</p>

    <p><strong>Private College or University</strong></p>
    <p>Some private schools are eligible for State Stipends.  Check with Financial Aid Office of the particular school to find out if it participates in its State Stipend Program.</p>
 
    <p>The following are some general requirements if your school is a participant:</p>

    <ul>
    	<li>The student must have an in-state classification for tuition purposes.</li>
    	<li>The student must be a graduate of a state-recognized high school or have successfully completed a non-public home-based educational program within the state of residence.
    	<li>The student must be financially eligible by demonstrating financial need for the Federal Pell Program.
    	<li>The student must meet any other eligibility requirements as mandated by the state of residence.
    	<li>There are some courses, such as advanced placement courses, that may not be eligible for a Stipend payment.  Check with the Financial Aid Office of your school to determine if all your course credits are Stipend-eligible.
    	<li>If you attend two schools at the same time, you may be eligible for Stipends from both schools.  However, you must apply for a stipend at each school in order to attain eligibility status for the State Stipend Program for each school.</li>
 	</ul>

	<h3>How to Apply</h3>

    <p>You will receive advisement from the Financial Aid Office from your school as to the process for applying for a stipend.  Once you have received a stipend, then there is no need to apply each succeeding year.   Your stipend funding is usually transferrable from one school to another within your state of residence, as long as the schools are participants in the State Stipend Program.</p>

    <p><strong>When do you receive Stipend payments?</strong></p>
    <p>You DON"T - State Stipend payments are sent directly to your school and they are applied directly to your account.  Again, check with the Financial Aid Office of your school to verify its student notification process.</p>
