Green grants provide resources, very often financial resources, to consumers, organizations and businesses to support various environmentally-friendly products and projects that focus on agriculture or promote the use of renewable energy. Whether you are looking to complete new construction, create "green jobs", or provide educational programs on the use of renewable energy sources there are a number of green grants that could assist you. A number of additional green grants are also available to fund environmentally friendly projects or ideas. The remainder of this article is dedicated to providing an overview of the availability of green grants and tips on writing successful green grant proposals.

Current "Green Grant" Availability

The Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has been tasked with managing the green grants that are allocated under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) of 2009. Current initiatives include national, state and local green grant opportunities for governments, consumers, industry, and nonprofits. For additional information on the green grants managed by the EPA visit: epa.gov

The Federal Grants Wire website, http://www.federalgrantswire.com/department-of-agriculture-federal-grants.html, posts all of the Department of Agriculture Federal grant opportunities, to include green grant opportunities. As of October 2011, the website had over 250 grant opportunities available to states, individuals, educational institutions, and nonprofit organizations.

Successful "Green Grant" Proposals Tips:

All proposals, including green grant proposals, require thorough research into potential funders. For the best potential success in receiving a grant, you will need to match your area of interest for funding with a funder who typically funds projects or ideas of a similar nature and one in which you have the ability to meet all of the eligibility criteria.

With your green grant research finished, you will need to begin completing the applications for the grants that you believe are the best fit.

Check for the availability of and attend any pre-proposal conferences or meetings offered or mandated by the potential funder. This step is imperative when applying for governmental funding.

As you complete the application, ensure that you complete every section of the grant application in its entirety and make sure that you comply with all grant application instructions, including the attachment of all requested documents.

Strictly adhere to the grant application deadlines listed in the request for proposal (RFP).

You will want potential funders to know who you are, what you have done so far, and how much more you can achieve with their assistance. If the announcement allows for you to send business plans, strategic plans, or annual reports; you should definitely include them.

We wish you the best of luck in obtaining a green grant!
