<h1 class="title_blue">Faith-Based Grant Resources</h1>
<p>For purposes of this chapter, faith-based grants refer to those grants specifically designated for a particular faith group. While faith-based organizations are eligible for Federal funding, there are stipulations to these grants. For example, faith-based organizations who receive Federal funding can use facilities without removing religious art, icons, scriptures or other religious symbols. They can retain the religious terms of the organization’s name, and select board members on a religious basis. They can retain their exemption status under Title VII of the Civil Rights Act, which allows them to hire on a religious basis, except in those cases when the Federal program statute forbids it. </p>
<p>However, there are no grant monies specifically set aside for faith-based providers. The United States Supreme Court has ruled that faith-based organizations can not use direct government support for inherently religious activities. Faith-based organizations must abide by the Equal Treatment and Charitable Choice regulations as outlined by the Federal government.</p>

<p>While there are no definitive grants earmarked for specific religious groups, the following are sites that can provide information regarding grants for which your faith-based group may be eligible.</p>
<ul>
<li><b>2009 American Recovery and Reinvestment Act</b> – This Act has affords opportunities in a myriad of fields, such as construction and education. Log onto your state of interest at <a href="http://www.state.gov/recovery/" target="_blank">www.state.gov/recovery/</a> to find out the grants and assistance from this program that are available in the state of your choice.</li>
<li><b>Federal Monies</b> – Search for all Federal programs at <a href="http://www.cfda.gov" target="_blank">www.cfda.gov</a>.</li>
<li><b>State Monies</b> – There are programs available in many areas. Follow the protocol for the 2009 American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, as it applies to your state. For example, log onto: <a href="http://www.recovery.ca.gov" target="_blank">www.recovery.ca.gov</a>, if you are interested in grants in the State of California.</li>
<li><b>County Monies</b> – These may be somewhat harder to come by, but there are programs that offer assistance in housing, business, education and health care. Log onto: <a href="http://www.govengine.com/local/gov/index.html" target="_blank">www.govengine.com/local/gov/index.html</a> for the county you seek.</li>
<li><b>Foundations and Private Donors</b> – There are plenty of private sources that may offer assistance to faith-based groups or to members of a particular faith. Log onto <a href="http://fdcenter.org">http://fdcenter.org</a> and <a href="http://www.guidestar.com" target="_blank">www.guidestar.com</a> for databases to these private donors.</li>
<li><b>Federal Assistance</b> - The Federal Government has close to 1,000 non-profit agencies and organizations available to assist in several areas. The best way to find out what is available in your area is to log onto <a href="http://www.hud.gov/offices/hsg/sfn/hcc_home.cfm" target="_blank">www.hud.gov/offices/hsg/sfn/hcc_home.cfm</a> or telephone the Locator at <em>1-800-569-4287</em>.</li>
<li><b>Local Assistance</b> – There are local community agencies that are available to help you locate government funding or other money sources. For the community agency in your area, log onto <a href="http://www.communityactionpartnership.com" target="_blank">www.communityactionpartnership.com</a> or call <em>(202) 265-7546</em>.</li>
<li><b>Office of Community Planning and Development</b> – This office can help identify grant programs that you may be eligible for. <li><b>Federal Government Gateway to Senior Resources</b> – You can find information on employment, housing, health, financial support, technology, transportation and independent living by logging onto <a href="http://www.ssa.gov" target="_blank">www.ssa.gov</a>. </li>
<li><b>State Vocational Rehabilitation Offices</b> – These centers are the starting point for all services within each state. You can locate the center within your state by logging onto <a href="http://www.govengine.com" target="_blank">www.govengine.com</a>. </li>
<li><b>Fundsnet</b> – At this site, you can find funding organizations by category and subject area, including foundations, national grantmakers, regional funders, international funders, government funding, and more. <li><strong>Catholic Healthcare West</strong> – This program is designed to help communities to provide support for underserved populations. CHW seeks to partner with other non-profit organizations that are working to improve the health status and quality of life of the communities that they serve and whose efforts embody the core values of CHW.
