<h1>Resources for Seniors</h1>
<p>As our medical technology and research improves from generation to generation, our health care likewise improves. As our health care improves, our life expectancy increases. We are living an average of 8 years longer than our parents did, simply because we know so much more about what is healthy for us, and what is not.</p>
<p>All you have to do is look at movies from the 50�s and 60�s and you will see almost everyone smoking. Smoking was a rite of passage into adulthood in those days, and you were considered �uncool� if you did not smoke. Our parents and grandparents never dreamed that smoking was so harmful, and that the tobacco manufacturers would lie to the public about the dangerous chemicals that are the main ingredients in cigarettes.</p>
<p>There has been a change in demographics over the past sixty years as a result of the �Baby Boomers� who were born immediately subsequent to the end of World War II. As these Baby Boomers head for senior status, we find that the demographics of the senior citizens are much different than they were thirty years ago. At that time, 10% of Americans were 60 years of age or older.</p>
<p>However, due to lower birth rates as well as lower death rates, 20% of the population in America today is over the age of 60, and the statistic is expected to continue to rise. In 2050, it is estimated that 33% of the population in the United States will be senior citizens. </p>
<p>People are avoiding harmful activities such as smoking to a great extent nowadays, and the practice accounts for our new-found longevity. As we all live longer, our senior population continues to increase. As more seniors are living into their 90�s and beyond, the government and private foundations are providing assistance for the needs of seniors through grants. </p>
<p>However, if you don�t know where to look for the grants, you�ll never be able to access them to benefit yourself or your loved ones. The Federal government alone has a myriad of grants available for seniors in the areas of housing, health care and a number of ancillary categories. There are Federal grants for seniors in the specific areas of nutrition, education, healthy habits, affordable housing, senior safety, volunteerism, and even employment.</p>
<p>In order to help you with your research in different areas, the following are lists of specific grants or links to grants that you can access. Good luck in finding the grant you are looking for!</p>

<li><strong>Federal Monies</strong> � Search for all Federal programs for the elderly at <a href="http://www.cfda.gov" target="_blank">www.cfda.gov</a>.</li> </li>
<li><strong>State Monies</strong> � There are programs available for seniors. Follow the protocol for the 2009 American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, as it applies to your state. <li><strong>County Monies</strong> � These may be somewhat harder to come by, but there are programs that offer seniors assistance in housing, business, education and health care. <li><strong>Foundations and Private Donors</strong> � There are plenty of private sources that may offer assistance to senior citizens in a myriad of ways. <li><strong>Federal Assistance</strong> - The Federal Government has close to 1,000 non-profit agencies and organizations available to assist senior citizens in several areas. <li><strong>Local Assistance</strong> � There are local community agencies that are available to help you locate government funding or other money sources for senior citizens.
